Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard
Napa Valley

Composed primarily of alluvial deposits and volcanic rock, Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard is located on the cool southeastern edge of the city of Napa, in the Vaca Hills, the eastern mountain range that defines the Napa Valley. The southwestern facing hillsides of the vineyard guarantee long sun exposure through the late afternoons, while the rocky, well-drained soils ensure highly concentrated fruit. Currently planted to Syrah, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Merlot, Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard is the focus of our Syrah program, producing ultra-concentrated fruit and intense finished wines characterized by deep color, full body and flavors of ripe berry, stone fruit and exotic spice.

Camelback Vineyard
Carneros Napa Valley

Situated on two consecutive hills, akin to a Camel’s back, Camelback Vineyard is the southernmost vineyard in Napa Valley. Direct maritime influence sweeping in from the San Francisco Bay coupled by gravelly, well-drained soils- a rarity in the clay-based Carneros region; make Camelback Vineyard a prime location for development of premium Chardonnay. The original Camelback Vineyard was a 300-acre Chardonnay vineyard that produced award winning wines for Hess Collection, Rombauer, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and Sequoia Grove. Bill Hill replanted the vineyard in a state-of-the-art fashion to include high density Dijon clones. Around 40 acres of the Camelback Vineyard serve as the main source for Bighorn Cellars Chardonnay. Year after year, our Chardonnay from this vineyard displays vibrant tropical fruit aromas and flavors, opulent texture and sensuous spice with the optimal amount of mouthwatering tartness.

Coombsville Vineyard
Napa Valley

Located east of the town of Napa, the 72-acre Coombsville Vineyard is situated on a rocky well-drained bench at the edge of Mount George. Nestled within a unique microclimate perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the Coombsville Vineyard is subject to one of the longest growing seasons for Bordeaux varieties in Napa Valley.

This property has been the source of high-end wines from producers such as Joseph Phelps, The Hess Collection, and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. Now it is the source of our vineyard-designate Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as our Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Reserve.

Coombsville Vineyard yields small clusters of tiny berries with concentrated flavors of cherries and blackberries. This vineyard is one of the last to be picked, with harvest beginning the third week in October.

Broken Rock Vineyard
Napa Valley

Named for its remarkably rocky soil, this 48 acre vineyard is Bill Hill’s home ranch. Perched on a steep, western facing slope, establishing this vineyard was a daunting but in the end highly rewarding task. This hillside location, blessed with high drainage and low fertility soil, consistently produces wines of unusual intensity and concentration. The property, which is currently planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is located on the eastern ridge of Napa Valley at the foot of Atlas Peak near Soda Canyon. Bill Hill developed this vineyard in a true state-of-the-art fashion: it includes densely planted vines (over 2,000 vines per acre), the best clones grafted onto low vigor root stock, and northwest to southeast row orientation. Our wines from the Broken Rock Vineyard exhibit intense color extraction ranging from deep garnet to purple-black, with rich ripe berry flavors and aromas.

McFadden Vineyard
Napa Valley

Named for its Nobel Prize winning owner, Daniel McFadden, the McFadden Vineyard is located in the rugged Soda Canyon area of Napa Valley. This 2-acre vineyard is dedicated to plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, the ideal variety for this unique site. Situated in the foothills below Atlas Peak, McFadden Vineyard is subject to only six hours of sunlight a day, making this the last of our vineyard sources to be harvested each year. Our Cabernet from McFadden Vineyard shows distinctive bright berry aromas and flavors complimented by elements of candied fruits and fresh herbs. The palate is as lively as the nose, medium-bodied and well-structured with a fresh and lasting finish.
